The study, conducted by researchers at Germany's Max Plank Institute,
found that a man's chances of dying early are cut by 20 per cent if
their bride is between 15 and 17 years their junior, reports the Daily
Telegraph.
The average life expectancy of a man is 77, but the last seven
years are marked by serious illness or ailments for the majority of men.
However, experts say that sex rates highest among the simple and
often bizarre ways to keep men healthy - including cutting down on pain
killers, eating five apples a day, brushing teeth with your wrong hand
and carrying wallets in the breast pocket.
The researchers
also found that men with younger women - who look after the children and
put food on the table - help extend their lives.
The study,
which examined deaths between 1990 and 2005 for the entire population of
Denmark, concluded that the higher life expectancy was either caused by
younger women caring for men better or natural selection.
