Talking a cue from the current string of mindless entertainers,
here's something that's worth an applaud for it's well thought out,
intelligent content. After making a remarkable debut with A Wednesday,
filmmaker Neeraj Pandey's latest offering Special 26 holds the potential
to hit the gold again at the Box Office. Special 26, that features
Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal, Jimmy Shergill, Manoj Bajpai and Anupam
Kher in the leads, is a heist drama, is an intelligent con film, based
on a real life incident.
Story
Special Chabbis is based on a real life group of con artists who pulled
off many clever robberies during 1980's, and robbed famous businessmen
and politicians by pretending to be the CBI or Income tax officers. The
movie is highly inspired by the real-life daring heist dated
19-March-1987 where the same group posing as CBI officers executed a
daylight income tax raid on the Opera House branch of Tribhovandas
Bhimji Zaveri in Mumbai and disappeared with jewellery worth lakhs.
Performances
The best part of the film would be the remarkable performances delivered by each actor. If you have had enough of Akshay Kumar's comedy genre, check him out in this one. After a lot of 'ha-has' and 'he-hees' in Housefull 2 and Khiladi 786, Akshay receives an intelligent make over for his role in Special Chabbis. Manoj Bajpayee's acting skills need no introduction. He delivers a first rate performance as the relentless intelligence officer Waseem Khan. Here's someone, who deserves a standing ovation. Yes, Anupam Kher, delivers a splendid performance in Special 26. He yet again proves his versatility as an actor. With Special 26, Neeraj Pandey has proved his potential to emerge as the voice of the common man. The main highlight of movie is the common man's frustration with those who have bent the system to accumulate wealth for themselves, and hence they try to settle the score with them by becoming con men representing authority. Verdict Special 26 is certainly one of those intelligent flicks amongst the lot, which deserves an applaud.
